How RouteShare handles your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect and why
To keep every driver, rider and company on RouteShare verified and safe, we collect:
- Identity documents (SA ID, selfie, proof of address; drivers also provide licences, permits and vehicle documents) — used only to verify who you are.
- Contact details (email, cellphone) — used for your account, alerts and invites you choose to send.
- Pickup and drop-off addresses/locations — used to plan routes and estimate distance. Your pickup address is shown only to your route's driver, the route organiser and RouteShare staff — never publicly.
- Wallet and booking records — needed to run payments, earnings and refunds.
What we never do
We never sell your information. We never show your documents to other users. Verification documents are viewed only by the RouteShare team to approve your account.
Your rights
You may ask us at any time to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account and documents. Contact privacy@routeshare.co.za. We keep verification documents only as long as your account is active.
Consent
By creating an account you consent to us processing the information above for verification and for running your transport bookings. You can withdraw consent by closing your account.
